2012 Al & Ann Stohlman Awards Are Proclaimed At Sheridan, Wyoming

2012 - Kay OrtonKAY ORTON - learned leathercraft at the young age of 10 through 4H. She became a 4H Leader while in college and has spent the last 39 years teaching leatherwork to young people all over the state of Colorado.  In 1974, she started a business that became known as "Kay's Creative Leathercrafts."  She developed an interest in saddle making after her daughter, Ruth made a saddle for a 4H project. She joined the Colorado Saddle Maker's Association; started publishing their Newsletter, takes care of their website and has become a part-time CSMA employee.

Kay continues her work with the 4H, which includes organizing the Western Slope 4H Leathercraft Workshop in Parachute, CO and helping with the First Annual Front Range Leathercraft Workshop in Colorado Springs, CO.  She also found time to serve on a committee to rewrite the 4H Leathercraft Manuals for Colorado AND teach weekly classes to her local 4H leathercrafters!
